The Teacher

 The Teacher

 Sabra Allred

During my childhood, I was one among many whose parents diligently shuttled me to and from weekly piano lessons, dished out incentives for practicing, and then listened to unending hours of painfully missed music notes while applauding my every effort. (How grateful I am for such parents!) Though I was not one who always ran to the piano every morning at the crack of dawn dying to whip out those scales and arpeggios! It took hard work.  However, my own journey of the piano lesson experience as a child opened the door for discovery: a priceless gift of dedication, determination, self-expression, and an indelible lesson of reaping what you sow. Most importantly, I fell in love with the beauty of creating and making music.

Formal piano training consisted of twelve years of instruction which included studying under the direction of Dr. Susan Duehlmeier of the University of Utah and Dr. Stephen Allen of Brigham Young University-Idaho. I graduated with a minor in General Music from BYU-Idaho. Other emphasis in my education included early childhood and preschool education subjects. My professional teaching experience has involved preschoolers to elementary-aged children, many with special needs. I have organized and taught small group music classes for young children and have spent innumerable years of my life playing piano accompaniment within my church for vocals and instrumentalists.

When not playing or teaching at the piano, I am a stay-at-home mother to three beautiful young  children. Our days are filled with reading favorite storybooks, dancing in the kitchen, exploring the outdoors, yoga, singing along to Laurie Berkner, and playing with our energetic puppy, Bruno.
